Michelle Popowitz (UCLA Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research and Executive Director for UCLA Grand Challenges) and Jill Sweitzer (Co-Director for UCLA Grand Challenges) attended an invite-only event hosted by the White House’s Office of Science & Technology Policy on July 25, 2016. The purpose of the event was to highlight national best practices related to Grand Challenge and Innovation Corps (I-Corps) programs. Michelle was one of only two presenters discussing Grand Challenges (Fred Cate, VP for Research at Indiana University was the other). Following the lightning talks, Michelle and Jill joined university, federal, state and city participants in work groups brainstorming about and opportunities and resources to foster further dissemination of Grand Challenge and I-Corps methodologies.
