UCLA leaders invited to President Obama launch of BRAIN Initiative

President Barack Obama is introduced by Dr. Francis Collins, Director, National Institutes of Health, at the BRAIN Initiative event in the East Room of the White House, April 2, 2013.

President Obama launched the Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative, a bold new research initiative designed to revolutionize our understanding of the human brain. Obama stressed importance of investing in American innovation to create jobs and strengthen our economy.

UCLA’s Chancellor Gene Block, Professor Kelsey Martin (Interim Dean, David Geffen School of Medicine; Professor, Department of Chemical Biology & Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences) and James S. Economou (former Vice Chancellor for Research) were present for the launch in Washington, D.C.
